Onomichi City Museum of Art尾道市立美術館

This museum stands in Senkoji Park, one of the most scenic spots in Onomichi. It was designed by world-famous architect Tadao Ando. It regularly presents a wide range of appealing special exhibits and planned exhibits featuring works from both Japan and overseas. In addition to the exhibition rooms, there is a coffee shop with a view of the Onomichi Channel and a museum shop selling original goods and posters.

Onomichi Literature Museumおのみち文学の館

The city of Onomichi is known as a place favored by many writers, who came to love this beautiful place and let their attachment be felt in their works.

The Onomichi Literature Museum is a tribute to these artists, and you are invited to discover them through the books they wrote and the places where they lived. The museum comprises the Commemorative Library, the former residence of Kenkichi Nakamura, the former residence of Naoya Shiga and the Literature Park.

Entsuba Katsuzo Sculpture Museum圓鍔勝三彫刻美術館

This museum is dedicated to Katsuzo Entsuba, who was born in Mitsugi and is famous in the world of Japanese sculpture.

On display inside the museum is a collection of Entsuba's works donated by the public.

Surrounding the museum is a park with many pieces of art, allowing for a great stroll in a relaxed atmosphere for the whole family.

Ikuo Hirayama Museum of Art平山郁夫美術館


The Japanese painter Ikuo Hirayama is known to have said: "My favorite scenery is always mountains, the sea and a set of islands. I was greatly influenced by my home town."

The Ikuo Hirayama Museum of Art hosts many of the great artist's works, from his first sketches as a child to some of his most famous master pieces. Ikuo Hirayama is especially well known for his paintings made at various points of the fabled Silk Road, as well as those representing the transmission of the Buddhist faith in Asia.
The Museum counts 3 exhibition rooms, a multimedia projection room and a section dedicated to the retelling of the renowned artist.

Murakami Santo Memorial Hall村上三島記念館

Largest collection of calligraphy in Japan.

Calligraphy material and work are in a unique collection, mainly by the late calligrapher, Santo who came from Kamiura Town. The building is the largest in Japan containing calligraphy noted for calming you down.

Murakami Suigun Museum村上水軍博物館


In the Warring States Period, the Murakami Suigun Naval played an important role taking responsibility for security, sea traffic as well as being equipped fof war.

The museum displays valuable literature and unearthed articles used by the Suigun Navy to give you a memorable insight of the Navy’s history.

Castle Ruin and the graceful landscape of Setouchi area can be viewed from the observation deck on the 3rd floor.

Kono Art Museum河野美術館

The museum holds 12,000 culture assets collected oyer many years by the late Nobuichi Kono.

Precious work and posthumous writings of people who influenced Japanese history from the Heisan Period to present day are held in the museum.

Permanent and programmed exhibitions covering each theme are displayed at different times.

Tamagawa Modern Art Museum玉川近代美術館

The museum has a dignified appearance surrounded by wild nature and is known as “the tiny art museum in the beautiful town.”

Artifacts are exhibited, created by modern painters since the Meiji Period, like Seki Kuroda and Takeji FujiShima.

Works are also displayed, created by novel painters like Tsune Nakamura and Shunsuke Matsumoto, as well as artists who came from this home district.

Valuable artifacts describe the history of modern western-style painting by Picasso, Rouault, and Utrillo.
